Mine is Almond Joy, a hot latte with almond and chocolate syrup.

Focaccia Eggs, this is one of my favorite breakfast item!
Focaccia bread topped with scrambled eggs, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, fresh basil, chopped bacon and mozzarella cheese; served with cheddar hash brown potatoes and fresh fruit.

If you're visiting Houston or if you're a resident and you're looking for a new place to have breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner and wine make sure to try Empire Cafe. I rate it 5 stars, two thumbs up. You will not regret it! To see their complete menu and more, click here.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Today is a very important day for my husband and I. A year ago on this date we purchased our first home. A great accomplishment in our marriage. Our goal was to be debt free and then buy our first home, but the opportunity came and we took advantage of it. We had to cut back on some things and adjust our budget, but buying a home is a great investment that we are happy to make some sacrifices. One of my favorite things is to sit down, relax and talk to my husband about his day at work, our future, and my hopes of growing old together. I recall talking to him about our first home, a small 2-3 bedrooms, one story home with enough space for the two of us and our pets for now. Well we did the opposite! We bought a two story home, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 1,800 sq. ft. For two people?! The transition from an apartment to our first home was the most amazing feeling, we closed the deal on rainy afternoon. We both had to take off from work and meet at the other side of town! We signed our lives away(well for 30 years) and they handed us our keys and Welcome Home Basket. I was ecstatic I could not believe that at my short age I was a home owner, I was only 23 years old and  had just bought my first home. My excitement was so great that I could not wait to move in, literally. I packed a night bag, couple of blankets and pillows, and forced my husband to sleep with me in our new home on the FLOOR!
After that I did not want to go back to our apartment, which we had two months left to pay rent on. Luckily for us our first house note was not due until 90 days after closing. We packed our bags and moved into our home, we didn't have much furniture so that made the move very easy. My main priority after moving in paying the two months of rent left at our apartment and pay our first mortgage payment was to pay everything else on time. I was not worried about the fact that we did not have the essential pieces of furniture like sofa, dining table. My sister in law/neighbor(she lives 2 minutes away from our house) gave us a sofa and love seat, my mom gave us a dining table with four chairs, we had our TVs, and bedroom furniture. But we were happy with that, today we still have not managed to furnish our whole house. We continue to work on paying off our debts, cars, credit cards, etc... Some day :) For now, Happy 1st Birthday Home Sweet Home!

"Home is the one place in all this world where hearts are sure of each other.  It is the place of confidence.  It is the place where we tear off that mask of guarded and suspicious coldness which the world forces us to wear in self-defense, and where we pour out the unreserved communications of full and confiding hearts.  It is the spot where expressions of tenderness gush out without any sensation of awkwardness and without any dread of ridicule."  ~Frederick W. Turkey Trot

For the past 18 years, the TXU Energy Turkey Trot benefiting Sheltering Arms Senior Services has become the largest Thanksgiving Day race in the Houston area. Thousands of people from all over the city, surrounding areas, and even visitors from out of town run or walk together for a great cause. From young children to older adults, many Houstonians have made the Trot a part of their family's Thanksgiving holiday tradition. On this day my girlfriends and I have many things to be thankful for, one of them is our friendship. This year we decided to join the great cause. We woke up early that morning to get ready for our race, it also helped to burn some calories for the Thanksgiving dinners we had to attend that night! Soon after I started the race I realized how our of shape I was and the challenge that laid ahead of me. I would tried to run but I would get tired and walk, I did that until I reached the finish line. My time 1 hour 44 minutes for 6 miles! This was a wake up call, from this day on I discovered my new passion... Running. My goal is decrease my time and next year be able to run 6 miles in one hour. I have a long way to go and train very hard.I hope to update you guys next year with the good news that I reached my goal!
